What is the Interstate Land Sales Act?
This Act was passed to protect consumers from fraud or abuse when buying or leasing land. Under this Act, subdivisions with 100 or more nonexempt lots must be registered with the U.S. Department of Housing and Development by land developers.
These developers are required to provider land buyers with a property report, which is a disclosure report containing important information about the subdivision in which the lot is located. This report must meet the requirements of the Act. The Act was passed to prevent scams in land sales being sold to out-of-state buyers who had no knowledge of what they were buying.
The Act applies to condominium developers in New York as well as nationwide. These developers must comply with the Act and to ensure that they have done so, it is best to consult with a Jersey City Interstate Land Sales Act lawyer at the firm who is knowledgeable in the nuances of the law.
